Booker Meets with Dr. Cecilia Rouse, Nominee for Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors
Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) met virtually with Dr. Cecilia Rouse, nominee to be Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors (CEA).
"Today, I had the honor of meeting virtually with Dr. Cecilia Rouse who has been nominated to serve as Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors. In our meeting, we discussed the economic crisis created by the coronavirus pandemic, the path forward for economic relief and the President-elect's plan for "building back better" as we work to recover from the health and economic impacts of this pandemic. We also discussed how Congress and the Biden Administration can work together to boldly address the economic inequities and discriminatory policies that disproportionately and for centuries have prevented generations of Black families from accumulating and passing along wealth. I fully support Dr. Rouse's nomination and look forward to working with her and the Biden Administration during the long-term economic recovery from this pandemic, and I am confident that as Chair of the CEA, Dr. Rouse will be a powerful voice for working families and someone who will push for bold policies that pursue economic opportunity for all."
If confirmed, Dr. Cecilia Rouse will be the first African American and woman to lead the Council of Economic Advisors since its establishment 74 years ago. Dr. Rouse currently serves as Dean of the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. A renowned labor economist with expertise centered in the economics of education and equality, she is an accomplished leader who has held prominent roles across academia and government service. Before taking on her current role as Dean in 2012, Dr. Rouse served as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers in the Obama-Biden Administration and on the National Economic Council in the Clinton Administration as Special Assistant to President Clinton. Dr. Rouse joined the Princeton faculty in 1992 and has authored landmark papers on a variety of economic policy issues. Originally from California, Dr. Rouse received her Bachelor of Arts degree and her Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
